You’ve just finished a one-hour session of the Alexander Technique. You notice that you’re taller than you were an hour ago, and that your body feels much freer and it’s easier to move. Maybe you’ve come for this Alexander lesson because you sit at a computer all day and your neck and shoulders are always tight and sore, and you’re here seeking relief. Maybe you’ve brought your musical instrument in so you can learn how to play that instrument with more ease, so you’re not putting stress on your body. Maybe you’ve come because this is an emotionally challenging time and you want to make sure your body doesn’t take on and store all the emotion. You want to be able to flow with it. Maybe you’re recovering from surgery or an illness and find that the Alexander Technique helps balance your energies and alleviate your pain. The Alexander Technique addresses all these issues and more. It helps us change any pattern of tension and behavior and create a higher quality experience of living. We wanted to offer it at The 9th House because it is such a powerful path to awareness, change, and mastery. And it considers and encompasses the human being as a whole. Alexander sessions, which are called “lessons”, can help us become more aware of how connected our bodies are with our attitudes, our environment, our emotions, our thoughts, and especially our spirit. Jamee Culbertson is The 9th House Alexander Technique teacher. In addition to her 1600-hour, 3-year training to become an Alexander teacher, Jamee brings to these sessions her background in Tai Chi and Chi Gong and her many years as a spiritual student. She also served as Chair or Alexander Technique International, a worldwide professional society of teachers and friends of the Alexander Technique. |
